A big Big East matchup is set for Tuesday night as the Seton Hall Pirates head to Madison Square Garden to face the St. John’s Red Storm. Seton Hall enters the game looking to snap a two-game losing streak and secure its 15th win of the season. St. John’s, meanwhile, has been playing some of its best basketball of the year and is aiming for a fifth straight victory and its 14th win overall.

Seton Hall opened the 2026 calendar year with a strong 12-2 record and early conference wins over Creighton and Georgetown. The momentum slowed in recent outings, however, with a five-point home loss to UConn followed by another home setback against Butler on Saturday.

After Tuesday’s game, the Pirates will travel to Chicago to face DePaul. They will then close out the month of January with a home game against Xavier on January 28 and a matchup against Marquette on January 31.

St. John’s has won four straight games and is 8-2 over its last 10 contests. The Red Storm are coming off an impressive road win at Villanova and have rebounded well after opening 2026 with a loss to Providence.

During the current four-game winning streak, St. John’s has picked up victories at Butler and Creighton, followed by home wins over Marquette and Villanova. After this matchup, Rick Pitino’s squad will head to Xavier on January 24 before returning home to face Butler again on January 28.

These two teams will meet again on the final day of the regular season, March 6, at Seton Hall.

Game Outlook

With the game set at Madison Square Garden, the stage is fitting for one of the more anticipated Big East matchups of the season. St. John’s enters in strong form, but Seton Hall has the experience and familiarity to keep things competitive. The point spread may be larger than expected for a rivalry game in this setting, and the Pirates should be motivated after recent losses.

Expect a high-energy, competitive contest in New York City as conference play continues to intensify.
