Saturday was a loaded day of college basketball, and the Sunday schedule didn’t let up. There are some huge games for bubble teams and a game between two ranked teams in the Big Ten. Here are the picks for the biggest games on Sunday.
No. 20 Michigan at Ohio State prediction and pick
Michigan heads to the Schott as the top team in the Big Ten and a lock to make the NCAA tournament. Head coach Dusty May has done a fantastic job with this roster and has two big men who are a matchup nightmare for everyone. Danny Wolf is a three-point shooter who brings big men out of the paint, and Vlad Goldin is the big who does all of his work in the paint. Each of them can rebound, each of them can block shots, and shutting them down will be imperative for the Buckeyes to win the game
Ohio State is a bubble team, they would be in the field as of now but are on the bubble. The Buckeyes use their guards to set up their offense and do most of the heavy lifting. John Mobley Jr. is one of the best freshman guards in the country. He is one of the best shooters in the country and if he gets space he will make a lot of shots. Ohio State goes as point guard Bruce Thornton goes. If Thornton is having a good game and able to move freely within the offense Ohio State should win this game.
Nebraska at Northwestern prediction and pick
The Huskers are on the right side of the bubble currently and just need to win games down the stretch. They have done enough to earn a spot in the field. It is all about loss avoidance for Nebraska. Heading to Evanston will be tough but if Nebraska gets out to an early lead and get Brice Williams and Juwan Gary going on offense they will win the game. The Huskers have had a problem getting energized at times and getting up for big games. It's February, and the Huskers know they can not afford many days off the rest of the year.
Northwestern is limping into this game without stars Brooks Barnhizer and Jalen Leach. They are both out for the year with injuries. The Wildcats have still been able to keep games close because they never turn the ball over and take smart shots. The Wildcats don’t rebound very well, and they don’t have an on-ball defender good enough to slow down Williams. Nebraska needs any quad 1 win they can get, especially on the road.
No. 24 Creighton at No. 9 St. John’s
The battle for first place in the Big East. Creighton has won 9 out of their last 10 games, with a recent loss to UConn in Omaha. The Bluejays are a very interesting team on offense. They are a heavy three-point offense and use that open floor concept to work the ball inside to one of the best big men in the country in Ryan Kalkbrenner. Steven Ashworth is the point guard, the best three-point shooter, and the catalyst of the offense. He shoots over 40% from deep and has missed one free throw this season. Ashworth and Kalkbrenner do just about everything on offense and defense for Creighton
St. John’s is coming off a loss to Villanova. The Red Storm had a lot of trouble scoring for the second game in a row. St. John’s is built exactly like every Rick Pitino game. They are physical on defense and have zero problem playing games that are low-scoring. St. John’s easily gets the rim and can get there on anyone. Kadary Richmond and RJ Luis are the leading scorers for the Red Storm and are the guys that St. John’s rides to victory.
