Schedule Outlook

After a simply opening night game against Gardner-Webb, the Volunteers travel to Louisville over the season’s first weekend to see a much different Cardinals squad on the road. They’ll then be back home for a few more games before heading on their international trip in late November.

Tennessee’s holiday tournament is the Conintental Tire Baha Mar Championship, as they’ll head to the Bahamas to face Virginia on November 21st and then either Baylor St. John’s the following day. That tournament likely gives them two very intriguing matchups against strong defensive squads.

Late November and December does have a few more easy mid-major opponents, but the challenges are far from over. The Volunteers will host Syracuse on December 3rd as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge, then play another ACC foe a week later, facing Miami at Madison Square Garden as part of the Jimmy V Classic. A December 14th matchup at Illinois will also be a tricky matchup and must-watch weekend tilt.

SEC play gets underway on January 4th, as the Volunteers will welcome John Calipari and his new Arkansas squad to Knoxville for their only matchup of the regular season. With sixteen teams now in the SEC, the Volunteers will get a look at everyone, but see only 3 programs both home and away. The programs they’ll face twice are Florida, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.

Many notable games will transpire during league play. Tennessee heads to new rival Texas on January 11th and also head to Oklahoma a few weeks later. Their only matchup comes at Auburn on January 25th, though they get to host Alabama near the very end of the season. Senior Night will come against South Carolina in the regular season finale on March 8th.
