Projected Starters

Guard – Jordan Pope (Junior)

Outstanding as an underclassman, Pope is one of those big transfer additions, joining Texas after two seasons out at Oregon State. Despite a dreadful season for the Beavers, Pope averaged 17.6 points and 3.4 assists in a sensational sophomore campaign, making 37% of his 3-pointers while leading the Pac-12 in minutes played. He slides into a major role with the Longhorns, though he won’t be leaned on quite as much as a scorer.

Guard – Tre Johnson (Freshman)

One of the nation’s top recruits, Johnson is a 6’6 shooting guard from Dallas who should provide fireworks for the Longhorns. He’s an outstanding shooter and does damage all over the place on offense, with decent rebounding and defensive potential as well. Expect his size and talent to help him become a consistent contributor even as a true freshman.

Guard – Tramon Mark (Senior)

Now at his third school in three seasons, Mark spent three years developing into a solid guard at Houston before his most productive year came last season at Arkansas. Mark averaged 16.2 points and 4.3 rebounds while making 36% of his 3-pointers, emerging as the Razorbacks’ leading scorer. He’ll now transition into a major role in this new-look Longhorns backcourt, hoping to build on that recent production.

Forward – Arthur Kaluma (Senior)

The first three years for Kaluma have been full of productivity. He made a pair of postseason runs as a starter at Creighton before averaging 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds in his lone season with Kansas State. Kaluma now begins life in his third major conference, settling into what should be a major role for Texas both as scorer and rebounder. If he can take another step forward as a senior, he might become an All-SEC forward.

Forward – Kadin Shedrick (Senior)

A former transfer himself, Shedrick is the lone returning weapon from last season in the starting rotation. The former Virginia forward started nearly a dozen games, averaging 7.7 points and 3.0 rebounds but will carve out a much bigger role with the departures of Dylan Disu and Dillon Mitchell in the frontcourt. He’ll hope to match the type of defensive efficiency he’s had in the past, once averaging nearly 2 blocks a game with the Cavaliers.
