Earlier this week, the Duke Blue Devils took on the Miami Hurricanes in an ACC matchup. The game went as expected, with Dule getting a dominant 97-60 road win to solidify the Hurricanes, officially finishing in the bottom three of the standings and missing the upcoming conference tournament.

But that wasn’t the biggest storyline of the game. Nor was it starting guard Tyrese Proctor getting hurt and diagnosed with a bone bruise. It was on the sidelines, with Duke assistant Jai Lucas facing off against, reportedly, his new team. The latest on Miami’s coaching search is that Lucas is the top guy the program wants and, while not official, is on the path of happening once the season is over.
Lucas, a Houston native who played at both Florida and Texas in his college basketball career, is one of the top recruiters in the coaching ranks, with plenty of connections in Texas and elsewhere. He also played a part in landing the Boozer brothers (Cameron and Cayden), 5-star commits for Duke right now.
One Nike EYBL head coach described Jai Lucas as a ‘monster recruiter’ in part because of his ties to the JL3 Nike EYBL team. https://t.co/bFCkbpEXZM

What’s interesting about the Boozers is that they’re from the Miami area, and the Hurricanes were reported finalists for them when Jim Larranaga was still the head coach. Assuming that Lucas is going to be the new HC there, would the Boozers be willing to stay home and join him instead of playing for the Blue Devils? If you’re Cayden, it’s not a guarantee that he’ll get a ton of minutes in the backcourt compared to his top-3 overall brother. It might make more sense for him to go to a completely open roster, where he could be the lead guard.
Jai Lucas can recruit.

This is going to be a fascinating development, assuming that Lucas to Miami becomes official. He’s going to be able to get some notable names to join the rebuilding program. The question is, will any of them be coming over from Duke?
