Two months into the college basketball offseason, many players who have elected to enter the transfer portal have found new homes for the 2025-26 season. However, hundreds remain without a landing spot as we enter the quiet portion of the offseason.
Among those are some mid and high-major players still looking for a spot. On paper, there aren’t many that would be viewed as game-changers at the highest of D-I levels. However, there are still some names to watch that are still available.
Here are the top 12 available free agents in the transfer portal, based on those with official eligibility remaining.
12. Daniel Rivera
2024-25 season stats (UMass): 11.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg
The 6’6 forward is a bit undersized as a frontcourt player who doesn’t spread the floor but Rivera is a solid physical player with some shot-blocking ability, averaging around two a game between his time at UMass and Bryant. The last update with Rivera is that FAU and South Florida were among his options.
11. Kam Woods
2024-25 season stats (Robert Morris): 14.9 ppg and 5.2 apg
Although Woods was fairly inefficient, with a shooting split of 37-29-60, he made a ton of plays for Robert Morris, leading them to winning the Horizon League Championship (he won Tournament MVP). The veteran playmaker could be a significant late addition at his last stop, whether it’s mid or high-major.
10. Ryan Curry
2024-25 season stats (Army): 12.5 ppg and 3.6 apg
The 6’0 combo guard was the third-leading scorer for the Black Knights, shooting 42% from the field and 37% from three-point range on seven attempts a night. Curry had six games of 20+ points last season, including a career-high of 30 on 6/7 shooting from deep in a 2OT win over Bucknell.
9. Zaon Collins
2024-25 season stats (Fresno State): 12.4 ppg and 4.6 apg
Collins was the best player on the 6-win Fresno State squad, leading them in both scoring and passing. From a talented perspective, he should’ve been off the board a long time ago. However, between a past DUI conviction that resulted in someone’s death years ago and other off-court issues that reportedly happened this past season, Collins may be too toxic for teams to take.
8. Jakevion Buckley
2024-25 season stats (Southeast Louisiana): 14.5 ppg and 4.1 apg
The 6’0 guard from Texas was an All-Southland performer last season, including being on the all-defense squad. Buckley shot 46% from the field but just 28% from deep, though he was fairly good at getting to the FT line. He took a visit to Duquesne a month ago as the most recent update.
*Buckley has reportedly committed to New Orleans
7. Paul McMillian IV
2024-25 season stats (Canisius): 20 ppg and 2.8 apg
In his first year as a full-time starter, McMillian was one of the best scorers in all of college basketball. He shot 45% from the field and 33% from deep, including a trio of 30+ point outings. He was one of the worst teams in CBB all last season, winning just three games total. Programs from the MEAC and SWAC have shown interest, with visits currently ongoing.
6. Shelton Williams-Dryden
2024-25 season stats (West Georgia): 17.6 ppg and 7.5 rpg
The 6’6 forward led the 6-win Wolves in both scoring and passing, shooting 55% from the field. Williams-Dryden had six double-doubles, including 27 points and 10 rebounds against North Alabama. He had committed to the Green Bay Phoenix but has since parted ways.
5. Jalen Blackmon
2024-25 season stats (Miami): 6.9 ppg and 1.4 apg
The former ASUN star struggled moving up a level, averaging around just 20 mpg as a mostly bench player. But this is still a player with a 21 ppg campaign on his resume, and assuming he does indeed have one more year, would be a capable high-major reserve or mid-major starter next year.
4. Arturo Dean
2024-25 season stats (Oklahoma State): 7.6 ppg and 3.4 apg
The 5’11 ball-handler started 21 games for the Cowboys this past season, shooting 40% from the field and 28% from deep. Dean is one of the best when it comes to steals, nearly averaging three a game in his CBB career. His brother, Mister Dean, had committed to College of Charleston out of the portal. Will his older brother follow or stay at the high-major ranks?
3. Ali Abdou Dibba
2024-25 season stats (Southern Illinois): 17.2 ppg and 4.8 rpg
The 6’4 scoring guard was an all-league performer in the MVC, leading the Salukis in scoring this past season. Dibba shot 49% from the field and 34% from deep, including 30 points in the MVC Tournament win over Indiana State. He’s one of the best scorers available in the portal, though Dibba has had one of the quieter portal campaigns thus far.
2. Keonte Jones
2024-25 season stats (Cal State Northridge): 13.1 ppg, 9.0 rpg, and 4.1 apg
The 6’6 forward was one of the top all-around players in the Big West last season, averaging 3.1 steals/blocks combined per game. Jones had originally committed to the USC Trojans nearly a month ago but has since de-committed, with a quiet second round outside of being reportedly linked to Alabama.
1. Desmond Claude
2024-25 season stats (USC): 15.8 ppg and 4.2 apg
Claude was the best player on the Trojans this past season, leading them in both scoring and passing. He’s had a fairly fascinating recruitment, including being linked to Florida, Tennessee, Gonzaga, Alabama, Washington, and Oregon. He’s easily the best available player left in the portal and could be a potential game-changer for whoever lands him late in the offseason.
