Bryan Hodgson is another new head coach who could greatly benefit from this rule change, as many portal newcomers are entering their fourth years. That includes Mack, a proven veteran starter at Georgetown who is their likely lead guard.
Byrd, a former Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, would have two years to get acclimated to the Big East level. The same would go for Sabol, one of Buffalo's top scorers and shooters at the MAC level. Having a backcourt with this much talent be able to all come back would be big for the program, looking to compete with the likes of UConn and St. John’s at the top.
Aletan is an interesting player in that the Ivy League essentially forces players to enter the portal after four years, since there’s no ability to redshirt in the conference. Barring a change, there will be dozens of players like Aletan every year leaving after their fourth year in order to use the newly acquired fifth season.
