The non-conference slate has been one of struggle for Minnesota Basketball in the past. Last season alone, the team lost to the likes of North Texas and Wichita State. The program has a new man in charge in former Colorado State HC Niko Medved and hopes to get off to a good start next season.
The Gophers’ non-con slate includes their participation in the Acrisure Invitational around Thanksgiving. They’ll play either Saint Louis or Santa Clara in that event based on the results from the prior day. Either team would be one of the most challenging games Minnesota will have before Big Ten play. Here’s a look at the top three confirmed matchups to watch.

3. Stanford Cardinal (H)
The Cardinal lost its key trio from last season, including 20 ppg scoring forward Maxime Raynaud. Among the key returning pieces are Chisom Okpara, Ryan Agarwal, and Jaylen Thompson. They’re going to need several surprise contributors in order to be competitive in the ACC.
2. San Francisco Dons (H)
Star guard Malik Thomas transferred out to Virginia, but the Dons were able to keep freshman star wing Tyrone Riley IV. Among the key newcomers were guards Vukasin Masic (Portland) and former 5-star prospect Mookie Cook (Oregon). While Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s will be the favorites in the WCC once again, the Dons are viewed as the biggest threat to them.
1. Missouri Tigers (A)
The backcourt was the strength for Missouri last season. With Mark Mitchell Jr. back, look for the frontcourt to lead the way next year, thanks to incoming transfers Shawn Phillips Jr. and Jevon Porter. They’ll need UCLA transfer Sebastian Mack to be the next lead guard, and if that happens, the Tigers will remain in the NCAA Tournament contender.
