Among the programs outside of the power conferences to make noise this offseason, one that got a lot of attention was South Florida. They got a new HC in Bryan Hodgson of Arkansas State and landed several high-level transfers. The Bulls are an early pick to be the biggest threat to the Memphis Tigers at the top of the American pecking order for next season.

However, South Florida must first navigate its non-conference slate, which includes some solid opponents. Three of the games are in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, which features potential foes such as VCU, Vanderbilt, and St. Mary’s.

Among the confirmed games, here’s a look at the three most notable opponents to watch.

3. GW Revolutionaries

This upcoming season will be a big one for GW, returning all-league center Rafael Castro, along with returning guards Trey Moss and Trey Autry. The additions of transfer guards Tre Dinkins, Jean Aranguren, and Bubu Benjamin give them plenty of quality depth and make them early contenders in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

2. OK State Cowboys

The Cowboys have some interesting newcomers to the roster, including Anthony Roy, who averaged around 25 ppg for Green Bay before suffering an injury in the non-con. Isaiah Coleman led Seton Hall in scoring last season, and Kayne Clary is a former 16 ppg scoring guard from two years ago at Michigan. Frontcourt depth may be an issue, but the firepower should be there on the roster overall.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

The one game where the Bulls will be definitive underdogs is against Alabama, part of a new multi-game series between the programs. The Tide lost a lot of talent this offseason, but brings back Labaron Philon, a top sophomore guard. Noah Williamson was the Patriot League Player of the Year at Bucknell, and Taylor Bol Bowen is an athletic forward who shot over 40% from deep at FSU. The offense should remain top-tier again at Alabama, and it will be hard for South Florida and everyone else to defend.
