The Maryland Terrapins won 27 games last season and made it to the Sweet in a very successful team campaign. But after head coach Kevin Willard left to take the Villanova open job, the program had to rebuild, starting with landing Buzz Williams from Texas A&M.
Maryland’s non-con schedule was recently released, including two of the three games from the Player’s Era Championships. Of the 10 confirmed games outside of Big Ten play, here’s a look at the top four opponents to watch.

4. Georgetown Hoyas (H)
The Hoyas are without their two NBA Draft picks from last season, including big man, Thomas Sorber. The team did a good job in rebuilding its backcourt, landing key transfers, KJ Lewis (Arizona), Langston Love (Baylor), and Jeremiah Williams (Rutgers). They’ll need sophomores Julius Halaifonua and Isaiah Abraham to have an impact in the frontcourt but there’s potential with Georgetown’s roster.
3. Virginia Cavaliers (A)
It’s a matchup of completely revamped rosters, with Virginia also hiring a new coach in Ryan Odom. On paper, he had one of the strongest offseason portal runs when it comes to the backcourt, landing transfers such as Dallin Hall (BYU), Sam Lewis (Toledo), and Malik Thomas, who averaged nearly 20 ppg at San Francisco last season. The Terps frontcourt looks to have the advantage, though, making this an intriguing matchup when they play.
2. Marquette Golden Eagles (A)
The Eagles are without star guard Kam Jones, but still return key pieces such as guard Chase Ross and forward Ben Gold. As they have in the past few years, look for some returning role players to take leaps into potential all-league status, with Royce Parham, Tre Norman, and Zaide Lowery among the options to watch.
1. Gonzaga Bulldogs (N)
Gonzaga has been a top-20 caliber team for the past two decades and should have another quality roster, led by returning leading scorer and rebounder Graham Ike. Forward Braden Huff is also back, while former Patriot League Player of the Year point guard Braeden Smith is set to play after redshirting last year. If transfers Adam Miller and Tyon Grant-Foster have big years, the Bulldogs will be a threat to make another deep run in March.
