The constant revolution of the Transfer Portal just continues building intrigue, with a major piece from North Carolina now entering the fray. Following two seasons with the Tar heels, point guard Elliot Cadeau has entered the Portal and will be heading to another school for his junior year.

A native of New Jersey, Cadeau was one of the top point guard recruits in the Class of 2024 before opting to reclassify, starting college a year early. He had spent a year at Link Academy in Missouri and elevated his game before opting for North Carolina and Hubert Davis’s program.

Cadeau made decent strides in his freshman season, averaging 7.3 points and 4.1 assists per game in a season where the Tar Heels won the ACC regular season title and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. His offensive number didn’t blow anyone away, with weak outside figures, but it was a solid freshman season for the young guard.

His sophomore season transpired with more personal success, averaging 9.4 points and 6.2 assists a game, though North Carolina as a team wasn’t as sharp. The Tar Heels crawled into the Tournament as the final at-large, with Cadeau putting up 9 points and 12 assists in their First Four win over San Diego State. However, Ole Miss sent them packing and that became Cadeau’s final time wearing Tar Heel blue.

As a potential blue chip prospect, Cadeau has clearly underachieved with the Tar Heels and it’s not a surprise to see him entering the Portal and finding a new home. When he was originally recruited, he visited Texas Tech and could still be connected to the Red Raiders, though he’s entered the Portal with a do-not-contact indication. That doesn’t necessarily mean he has his next destination ready, but we could know more news about Cadeau very soon.

The future is uncertain, but Cadeau is still a brilliant distributor and solid defender who should continue to grow into a solid prospect in the right situation. There’s no question that he’s taken a step back at North Carolina, with R.J. Davis stealing more of the spotlight, but perhaps he can carve out a solid second chapter like former Tar Heel Caleb Love has done recently out at Arizona.
