UConn and Syracuse renew an old rivalry

The most recognizable matchup on Tuesday's schedule takes place in Connecticut, where Syracuse faces UConn in an exhibition at Mohegan Sun Arena. The programs have a long basketball history, and the game represents an opportunity to renew a rivalry that once helped define Big East competition.

Syracuse begins a new era under Gerry McNamara, the former Orange star who returned to lead his alma mater after guiding Siena to the 2026 NCAA Tournament. McNamara inherits a roster featuring returning players Kiyan Anthony and Sadiq White Jr., along with several newcomers. The exhibition should provide an early indication of how the Orange plan to distribute offensive responsibility.

UConn enters the season attempting to maintain its place among college basketball's strongest programs. Dan Hurley's team reached the national championship game last season, and returning guard Braylon Mullins should play an important role in the Huskies' new rotation.

The exhibition won't count toward either team's regular-season record, but the matchup offers a meaningful early test.

Arizona opens its exhibition schedule against San Francisco

Arizona begins its preseason with a home exhibition against San Francisco at 10 p.m. ET. The Wildcats are coming off a remarkable 36-3 season that included a Final Four appearance. Tommy Lloyd's program now faces the challenge of integrating new contributors while maintaining the standards established during that successful campaign.

Arizona has several intriguing players, including freshman Caleb Holt and returning frontcourt contributors Motiejus Krivas and Ivan Kharchenkov.

San Francisco presents an interesting opening opponent because the Dons have undergone significant roster changes. Chris Gerlufsen's program will use the exhibition to evaluate its rotation against one of the country's most talented teams.

The matchup is scheduled to stream on ESPN+.

Samford and Alabama A&M meet in Birmingham

Samford and Alabama A&M meet at Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham as part of the Ballin in Boutwell exhibition event. Samford coach Lennie Acuff has emphasized the value of facing in-state opponents during the preseason. The Bulldogs also have exhibition matchups scheduled against Jacksonville State and Auburn later this month.

Tuesday's game provides both programs an opportunity to evaluate their defensive execution, offensive chemistry and rotation decisions.

The exhibition begins at 8 p.m. ET, which is 7 p.m. locally in Birmingham.

Florida A&M hosts Warner

Florida A&M opens its exhibition schedule against Warner at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee.

The Rattlers will use the contest to evaluate their roster before beginning regular-season competition in November. Florida A&M also has a second exhibition scheduled against Saint Leo on October 27.

Tuesday's matchup begins at 7 p.m. ET.

What to watch during Tuesday's exhibitions

The most interesting storylines involve programs entering the season with significantly different expectations.

UConn and Arizona are attempting to remain national contenders after successful NCAA Tournament runs. Syracuse is beginning a new coaching era, while Samford, Alabama A&M, San Francisco and Florida A&M are working to establish their rotations.

Exhibition results don't count toward regular-season standings, but they can reveal important information about defensive communication, offensive chemistry and which players are ready for larger roles.

Tuesday provides another opportunity to see how the 2026-27 college basketball season is beginning to take shape.
