Wednesday was a fairly busy day for UConn Basketball head coach Dan Hurley. He was the face of Big East Media Day, with he and the program looking to defend its conference and national titles. But there's also work being done on the recruiting trail, with the winning impacting the 2025 class.
So far, the Huskies have landed 5-star combo guard prospect Darius Adams, and most recently, top-30 center, Eric Reibe. And now, they've landed their third commit in the group in Braylon Mullins.
A top-20 prospect and five-star player in the 2025 class, Mullins is a 6'5 shooting guard who is one of the best shooters in the class, shooting nearly 50% from three-point range in the offseason AAU circuit. Originally from Greenfield, Indiana, it was thought that the Indiana Hoosiers would be the team to beat as the local option. They were one of the finalists in this recruiting battle, with the UNC Tar Heels also in the mix.
But now, UConn gets Mullins. They've benefitted greatly from pure shooters being on their teams, with Cam Spencer and former NBA Lottery pick Jordan Hawkins being the recent examples that the team probably sold the prospect on. The current roster features sophomore Solomon Ball and Saint Mary's transfer, Aidan Mahaney but in today's landscape, you can't assume both will be around a year from now.
Plus, Mullins' size will allow him to play the traditional wing positions, especially if 5-star freshman forward Liam McNeeley is only around for one year himself before going to the NBA. Either way, Mullins is going to have a big impact for the program, part of a now top-3 overall class this cycle.
Regarding who the next UConn Basketball commit could be, look at the recruitment of top-30 forward prospect, Niko Bundalo. They're one of four teams in the mix to land him, along with UNC, Michigan State, and Ohio State. If they land him, the Huskies could make the case to having the best class of 2025 group in the country.
