Villanova Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Wildcats
By Joey Loose
Key Reserves
Forward – Josiah Moseley (Freshman)
A 4-star power forward from Texas, Moseley might be the most exciting of Villanova’s freshmen recruits this season. He doesn’t have the size or strength of a typical 4, and may see more time at small forward at the college level, but he’s a talented and aggressive weapon who can shoot and rebound with high success.
Guard – Kris Parker (Freshman)
Among last offseason’s Top 100 recruits, Parker didn’t see the court while at Alabama, and opted to transfer after redshirting his freshman season. He’s a well-sized wing with solid shot-making ability and a ton of raw ability. It’ll be interesting to see what his game looks like after a year of bulking up and adjusting to the collegiate level.
Guard – Aleksandar Gavalyugov (Freshman)
Gavalyugov is a player that had been on the radar long before the Wildcats nabbed him a few months ago. A 6’2 point guard from Bulgaria, he’s shown flashes of brilliance for a few years over in Europe as a passer and scorer, though this raw talent may also need a little time to adjust to the collegiate game; depending on the depth in the backcourt.
Guard – Jordan Longino (Senior)
A reserve for the Wildcats throughout his career, Longino enters his fourth season at Villanova and should be looking at a similar role as a senior. Last year saw his best production, averaging 6.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game with a much better touch from outside the arc. He’s the veteran talent off the bench in the backcourt and should also serve as important for the younger pieces around him.
Forward – Nnanna Njoku (Junior)
Njoku didn’t see a ton of the court in his first three years with the Wildcats, with injuries playing a major part in those limited opportunities. He’s played just 24 games in his career and had very limited production last season, averaging less than a point per game. However, if healthy he’s a solid interior presence and moves up the depth chart, perhaps grabbing more significant minutes as a backup center.
Forward – Matthew Hodge (Freshman)
Another 4-star recruit who joined the Wildcats this offseason, Hodge is a 6’8 forward out of New Jersey with a bright future ahead of him. What makes Hodge stand out is his strength and toughness, not to mention his ability to impact the game on both sides of the court. There’s still work ahead for his game, but he’s an explosive and versatile weapon who could develop into an important depth piece even this year.
