Villanova Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Wildcats
By Joey Loose
Schedule Outlook
This important season begins with relative ease, as the Wildcats host three straight games in the opening week, with Columbia probably the toughest of the bunch. Their Big 5 action starts on November 12th with a road test at Saint Joseph’s three days before traveling to Baltimore, facing off against Virginia during the Hall of Fame Series.
Another Big 5 matchup gives Perkins a look at his former Penn squad before the Empire Classic sees the Wildcats taking on Maryland in New Jersey on November 24th. There’s no major tournament on Villanova’s schedule, but you can tell that there are a few challenging neutral-site opportunities to help build this early resume.
Another comes on December 3rd, as the Wildcats host Cincinnati as part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle. Just four days later they’ll be facing either Drexel, La Salle, or Temple to finish off the Big Five Classic. Nonconference play ends a few days later against FDU, though the Wildcats clearly need to take care of the opportunities in front of them.
Big East play begins for Villanova on December 17th and features home and away games against all ten of their league rivals. They already get a really challenging game before Christmas, heading to Creighton on December 21st. Their first huge opportunity at home in league play comes as they welcome UConn on November 8th.
There aren’t a ton of easy opportunities in this league, and nearly every road game is a missile. They’ll be at Marquette on January 24th and host Creighton just a week later. Late road games against UConn, Providence, and Seton Hall will certainly play a major role in conference standings. The chaos ends on the road at Georgetown, though the Wildcats’ final home game is March 1st against Butler.
