The confetti streamlined in a mesmerizing array of blue and orange late Monday night in San Antonio, signaling the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season is officially at a close after a whirlwind of 154 days.
While most, if not all, teams have been active in the transfer portal already, fitting the pieces of their roster puzzle together, the one dreaded word in college baseball is befittingly upon us: the offseason.
With that being said, take a look at our way-too-early early top 25 rankings for the 2025-26 season. Amidst the chaos-ensuing nature of the transfer portal (the portal won’t close for another three weeks), placing a top 25 list together feels like throwing darts with a blindfold on. Nonetheless, we’re going to take a stab at it.
25. Texas Tech Red Raiders
The reasoning for the Texas Tech Red Raiders jumping inside the top 25 is based on two players: Darrion Williams and the Big 12 POY Jacob Toppin. But there’s one (or two) caveats. Williams put his name in the transfer portal as well as declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, but there is a possibility he can return.
Toppin, a double-double machine, projects as a second-round pick according to recent mock drafts. It’s TBD whether he will return. For now, we assume at least one will return, hence the top 25 ranking.
