Detroit will host the national semifinals on April 3 and the national championship game on April 5, marking the first time the city has hosted the Final Four since 2009.

It’s a familiar type of venue for the event, with Ford Field providing the large-capacity, dome setting that has become standard for college basketball’s biggest stage.

Why Detroit makes sense for the Final Four

The Final Four has increasingly leaned on NFL stadiums, and Ford Field fits that model. The venue allows for a significantly larger crowd than traditional basketball arenas, while also being located in a region with strong college basketball support.

Detroit also sits within driving distance of several major basketball programs across the Midwest, which typically helps create a strong fan presence regardless of which teams advance.

What comes next?

While the location is set, the teams that will make the trip to Detroit remain wide open.

As always, 68 teams will enter the tournament, and only four will reach the Final Four. From there, two semifinal winners will advance to play for the national championship on April 5.

For now, the only certainty is the destination.

And in 2027, that destination is Detroit. Let the countdown begin!
