Updated 2015 NCAA Tournament Bracket: A Champion is Crowned

facebooktwitterreddit

Shut it down. Let’s go home. The 2015 NCAA Tournament Bracket is finished and there is only one survivor left; much to mostly everyone’s dismay.

Strike up the band! A NCAA Champion is crowned. Oh no, I didn’t mean “Dear Old Duke,” I was talking about “The Imperial March.” After a few incredible weeks of the best college basketball played this season, the Duke Blue Devils are the last team standing, hoisting the National Champion trophy, and cutting down the nets.

More from Duke Blue Devils

The Blue Devils’ road wasn’t exactly the most difficult, but winning six straight games against the hottest teams in the nation is nothing to sneeze at. They completely dominated Robert Morris and San Diego State, and then faced a Utah team that gave them a challenge with their size.

They then exercised their blue-blooded rights and beat down a Gonzaga team whose depth could not prevent them from being overtaken in the second half. They then mercilessly crushed a Michigan State team that was riding a surprising wave of tournament success to the Final Four, not exactly endearing them to the nation by knocking out the tournament underdogs.

Much to their delight, they faced off against the No. 1 seeded sweethearts of the 2015 NCAA Tournament Bracket from Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Badgers, with their band of lovable players, were attempting to win their first national championship since 1941.

Early in the game, Duke and Wisconsin went run for run only to come up even after the first half. Wisconsin came out hot in the second half, opening a nine-point lead with 13:23 left in the game and Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow fighting foul trouble. The “good guys” were going to win.

That is until Grayson Allen decided he was going to become the next Duke player that would inspire a documentary about how much he is hated. Allen would go full on hero and score eight straight points for the Blue Devils to get them back in the game.

A four-minute scoring drought from the Wisconsin Badgers would cause them to lose the lead, and never get it back. Tyus Jones would transform into “Tyus Stones” and hit big shots to extend the Duke lead and keep Wisconsin at bay, and the rest is history.

Duke gets to be the team that jumps around in celebration while the confetti falls around them, while Wisconsin goes back to their locker rooms and contemplates which on-campus meal they will have when they get back (chicken fingers, always).

So go on and hate, America. Duke earned their way to the national championship with the help of questionable officiating and there’s nothing you can do about it. Just know that the Blue Devils will see your vitriol and complaints, smile, and continue to bask in the glory of their title. Just another day at Duke.
