NCAA Tournament 2012: Draymond Green’s Triple-Double Carries Michigan State
On a night when when high seeds are dropping like flies, the Michigan State Spartans had none of that, with their 89-66 rout of LIU Brooklyn. The Spartans took the lead five minutes into the game and hung on with it the whole rest of the way, as Tom Izzo’s Spartans booked their ticket into the Round of 32.
Draymond Green led the way for the Spartans with a triple-double, racking up 24 points, 11 boards and 10 assists on the night. His 10-for-17 night shooting was a key part of the Spartans’ deadly shooting on the night, as they finished the game shooting 58.8% despite making just three three-pointers.
The threes were a big cog in the LIU Brooklyn arsenal, as the Blackbirds were 8-of-17 from distance. Despite the long range shooting however, Brooklyn was outrebounded 42 to 19 by Michigan State, including a 15-3 mark on the offensive glass.
Up next for Michigan State and Tom Izzo is Saint Louis and Rick Majerus. It’ll be a matchup of two coaches who’ve been around the block a few times, and two teams who haven’t received the media attention they deserve.
