Today is a sad day for a lot of different people. The sports world lost two beloved figures earlier this morning. First it was the surprising passing of WWE legend, the Ultimate Warrior. Unfortunately, news has also come out that Princess Lacey has passed away.
Princess Lacey Holsworth became a national hero after her relationship with Michigan State Spartans player, Adreian Payne, became public and her courageous battle with cancer became a story no one could ignore.
The news came very early this morning, as her Instagram account posted a picture of her and spoke of her passing.
Princess Lacey (as she became belovedly known as) was able to watch Michigan State in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight despite suffering a seizure earlier in the week.
She even made it to North Texas to watch Payne participate in the College Basketball Dunk Contest.
Sports is a funny thing. We argue about every program in the country, stick up for ours no matter what, and all rationality seems to be hurled out the window. However, Princess Lacey was not polarizing, divisive, or any type of figure that people could fight over.
What she actually happened to be was a young, cute and courageous little girl who left this world far too early.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.
