Busting Bracketology: December 2nd – Big East on the Rise
By Alex Miller
The early season tournaments have come and gone, so where does your team sit as the calendar turns to December?
Among the big movers since my preseason bracketology are West Virginia, who moved from a spot in Dayton to a 5 seed, and Miami, Arkansas, Old Dominion, and California. The Big East also had a strong showing in the early going with Creighton, Georgetown, and Butler all entering the field.
On the other hand, the Atlantic 10 has really struggled out of the gates. VCU has lost a few games and the conference as a whole dropped from five teams down to two – the casualties being George Washington, UMass, and Xavier.
The Big Ten and ACC still reign supreme with 8 teams apiece. Potentially even more impressive however, has been the Big 12. Six Big 12 teams are in, with another two knocking on the door. For a conference with only ten teams, that’s remarkable.
