VIDEO: Duke Blue Devils’ 11-0 Run To Beat Virginia
By Jacob Rude
Runs don’t come much bigger than this one. The Duke Blue Devils trailed the Virginia Cavaliers by five points with 2:46 left. On the road in a hostile environment, Coach K’s crew was on the brink of following to .500 in the ACC and kissing their chances at a regular season conference title good-bye.
Then this happened.
First, Matt Jones buried a three-pointer at the top of the key. Then Tyus Jones found Justise Winslow with a bullet pass to tie the game. Quinn Cook buried a three with just over a minute left to take the lead. Tyus Jones, a freshman, capped off the run and the game by pulling up for three from well beyond the arc to ice the game.
11 points. 2:46 seconds.
It’s not exaggerating to say the Blue Devils possibly saved their season. With the cards stacked against them, their resiliency can’t be overstated enough.
