Busting Bracketology: February 18th – A New 1 Seed
By Alex Miller
The top 2 seeds have remained unchanged for a surprisingly long time, until now – Wisconsin has replaced Gonzaga as a 1 seed.
This isn’t a knock on Gonzaga, but looking at their respective resumes, Gonzaga has a 4-1 record over the RPI top 50 with wins over SMU, Georgia, UCLA, and St. John’s. The Badgers have a 6-1 record over the RPI top 50 with wins over Oklahoma, Georgetown, Indiana, Illinois, Green Bay, and Boise State.
Both teams have a loss to top 10 teams in Duke and Arizona, and the one bad loss by Wisconsin (at Rutgers) can be looked over because Frank Kaminsky didn’t play and point guard Traevon Jackson was lost midway through the second half.

Seton Hall, who was a 5 seed in earlier versions of Busting Bracketology, has finally found themselves out of the tournament after collapsing down the stretch. The Pirates have a 3-9 record over their last twelve games.
Michigan State finds themselves back in the field after a big win over Ohio State last weekened. The Spartans seem to be hitting their stride over the past 2 weeks and, for now, it appears their stretch of 17 consecutive years with a tournament appearance will run to 18.
