Remember the Name: Kwe Parker is the Highest Flyer in the Class of 2016

It’s not everyday that you find yourself in a high school gym, of all places, giddy with the anticipation of seeing one of the most explosive players in basketball. However, that’s often the case whenever Kwe Parker is about to take the floor at North Carolina’s Wesleyan Christian Academy (WCA).

Even though Parker teams with high school basketball’s number one prospect, Harry Giles, scouts are learning that much of the palpable excitement surrounding the team is because of the super-athletic point guard with the swaggy three-letter name.

It wouldn’t be fair to call Parker an elite prospect. He’s probably considered to be at the bottom of a barrel of four-star prospects in the Class of 2016. However, there’s no denying that he has one particularly elite skill.

Kwe Parker can fly.

Amazingly, the footage you just saw is almost a year old. Now, as he prepares for her senior year, Parker is leaping higher than ever before — and major programs have already begun to take notice. However, the list of schools he announced as finalists for his signature have a small time feel.

As of now, Parker plans to choose from a list of schools that includes Wake Forest (located in the same city as his high school), Florida State, Florida, Rutgers (I have no idea how they’re involved in this).

Since he plays high school ball with Giles (and three other legit college prospects), there’s never a shortage of attention fixated on his games. However, he hasn’t generated the type of buzz one would expect considering the electric nature of his abilities.

Of the four schools contending, Wake Forest has an obvious edge. The school is located a few miles away from WCA in Winston-Salem, NC. They have also already signed one of Parker’s teammates (three-star point guard Brandon Childress), and they are still in the conversation for landing Giles (though they are an extreme long-shot).

The presence of the Florida State Seminoles also looms large. Head coach Leonard Hamilton has been a terror on the recruiting trail as of late, which has him looking at a potentially loaded roster in 2016-2017. Adding Parker to his 2016 class would be the latest in a string of coups. I’m sure Parker and those close to him are aware of the renaissance that’s taking place in Tallahassee, which means the Seminoles have to be a serious contender for his services.

The recruitment of Kwe Parker will be an interesting saga to follow. Parker could be another key building block as Danny Manning revitalizes Wake Forest, a crucial recruit in the beginning stages of the Mike White era at Florida, or the latest quality get for the Noles. One thing is certain. Whoever lands Parker will be seeing their program a bit more frequently on the nightly highlight reels.
