Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Basketball: Road to Redemption Starts With Non-Conference Schedule

The 2015-16 College Basketball Schedule for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets was announced laying out the road to redemption for Brian Gregory’s bunch.

Why is this year’s schedule a road to redemption you ask? Because when you lose as many close games as the Yellow Jackets did in conference play last season, the only thing that should and will be on the mind of the Yellow Jackets is to right the wrongs of last year.

The Jackets were competitive last season, finishing non-conference play 9-3 before not being able to get out of their own way for ACC wins.

Georgia Tech lost 12 ACC games by seven points or less last season including seven games by three points or less.

Because of all the near misses, a huge percentage of the Yellow Jackets fanbase was calling for head coach Brian Gregory’s ouster at the end of the season.

However, Gregory was able to retain his job and he, along with his team, is going to use this schedule to show everyone that he has the program going in the right direction though his 55-71 record in The Flats says otherwise.

But before the Jackets get their crack at having a big season in the ACC, they must first navigate through their non-conference schedule.

The Yellow Jackets non-conference schedule begins on November 13th with the Jackets facing Cornell out of the Ivy League.

This game will actually start a four game home stand for the Jackets which will include a November 16th matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers who are led by their new head coach Rick Barnes. Tennessee holds a 42-27 all-time edge in this matchup.

Georgia Tech will face another SEC squad when they go up against the Arkansas Razorbacks on November 26th as part of the NIT Season Tip-off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. They will then follow that game up on the 27th when they face either Villanova or Stanford on November 27th as part of that same event. Those games will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2.

The big game for the month of December is the annual matchup between the Yellow Jackets and Georgia Bulldogs which will be played on December 19th.

The Yellow Jackets defeated the Bulldogs last year in McCamish Pavilion 80-73 to start off their 2014-15 campaign. Tech owns a 105-86 all-time record against UGA.

Tech will closeout their non-conference schedule on August 29th against the Duquesne Dukes out of the Atlantic 10.

The Yellow Jackets will face seven teams that played in postseason tournaments last year, five of which played in the NCAA Tournament.
