Rick Pitino's Denial are far more Egregious than Roy Williams

At least with the North Carolina Academic Scandal there was a slight chance that Roy Williams was not in the know in regards to whether his kids were taking fake classes.

His situation was an institutional issue that could have possibly left him out of the loop so he could honestly say that he had no knowledge of the improprieties.

Williams may have had an idea that it was going on, but more than likely he caught the info from a party disconnected enough from the actual entanglements so that Williams’ plausible deniability could have some validation.

But Rick Pitino is really trying to play with everyone’s intelligence by saying he had no idea about the smoke from the “paid sex for recruits” fire happening at Louisville.

This is not about kids making sure their grades are up so that they can get on the court. When it comes to the grades the coach does not have a direct connection, thus Roy Williams can be given some benefit of the doubt.

The Louisville sex scandal is a whole other thing. The head coach is connected to player recruiting . In fact one of the major parts of his job description — recruiting!

It is really hard to not know that the kids that you are trying to lure to your school are going to be on campus. It is really hard not to know what activities they are going to be involved in when they are on campus, and with the amount of dollars that were spent at these recruiting parties, it is hard to believe that Coach Pitino did not have some kind of idea of what was taking place.

We can be sure that he was not physically at the parties partaking of the festivities, but there had to be some kind of rumors swirling around campus that the recruiting party were epic, and that high school students have not seen that much glitter since kindergarten arts and crafts.

The cold part about it is we really did not need the manager of the meat market, Katina Powell, to tell us that Andre McGee was spending loot on the Grade A beef she was producing.

This kind of thing has been going on forever when it comes to trying to attract recruits. Most people don’t send away to an outside contractor for the meat though, they usually get some of the freshman or sophomore Filet Mignon that is already doubling as the star linebackers lab partner. At least that way you can keep their schools’ name out of the local brothel’s payment ledger.

There is no need to bring up Rick Pitino’s past consensual sex escapade with Karen Cunagin Sypher which resulted in him funding an abortion, and not federal Planned Parenthood dollars, because in the end that has nothing to do with the current issue at hand.

The fact of the matter is that Rick Pitino does not have enough of a buffer between him and the scandal for his plausible deniability attempt to have some kind of credence.

Roy Williams at least has nothing to do with the grade books. The only thing with Williams attempt is that it had gone on for too long and involved too many players and departments for us to swallow the pill he was dishing out.

Rick Pitino is directly involved in recruiting, and even though he did not withdraw the money, or to our knowledge, did not place a phone calls to Katina Powell to set up the glitter show, it is hard to believe that Pitino did not have any clue of what kind of parties were going on.

This is 21 parties since 2010. There are players coming out saying “yes it is true!”. Where there is smoke there is usually something burning.

But we have to understand that Rick Pitino is a “Teflon Don”. He feels that he can get through any hardships and any scandal by simply using his name and his power to get him out of the situation.

That is what makes Rick Pitino’s plausible deniability, or heck, deniability of all more egregious than Roy Williams.

At least with Roy Williams we look at him and say “too many students benefited and too many years had gone by for you not to know something was going on. More than likely you did not have direct involvement in cooking the gradebooks”.

But with Rick Pitino we are looking at him like, “These are your recruits. You know when they are arriving, when they are leaving and who they are bringing with them. You seriously had no clue what was going on in those parties? You sound stupid if you did not know!”.

These coaches are getting paid seven digit salaries! Do they realize how dumb they sound by saying they know nothing. They get paid too much not to know.

That is why we know they are not telling the truth!
