Harry Giles ACL Injury Makes Duke or Kentucky Ideal Places for him to Commit

facebooktwitterreddit

Harry Giles tore his ACL in a high school game on Tuesday and that injury obviously is going to keep him out for the season.

This is an unfortunate occurrence and obviously everyone is hoping for a full recovery.

This injury, in the end, seems to have sped up the decision process for Giles who once was slated to make the announcement of his commitment for around November 12th.

But according to a tweet from ESPN recruiting insider Jeff Borzello, the 6-foot-10 five-star power forward is going to announce his decision on ESPN’s Sports Center at noon tomorrow.

This injury is not only unfortunate for Harry Giles, but it is also unfortunate for the slim chances that Wake Forest may have had of actually gaining the commitment from the Winston-Salem product.

Though Duke has been viewed as the favorite in the sweepstakes, Wake Forest was seen as the team that could actually swoop in and grab Harry Giles in the end because of the hometown roots.

But with this injury taking place, going to school at Wake Forest would not be the best thing for Harry Giles and his long term goal of playing professional ball.

He is now going to need to go to a school that is going to give him maximum TV exposure so he can show the country and in particular NBA scouts that he is fully healed from his injury.

The need for exposure is going to take Wake Forest slim chances of getting him down to none and actually make Kentucky the school that Duke has to fear the most.

More from ACC

When you are in a situation like Harry Giles is currently in with his ACL and the NBA is the ultimate goal, the best thing you can do is go to a school that is not only going to put you up against top competition, but also give you all the exposure that you are going to need to prove that you are healthy.

Duke, who was already seen as the front-runner, may have virtually locked up the commitment, if they hadn’t already because of the injury.  They are on ESPN constantly, are close to home for him, and will be in the NCAA Tournament.

Out of the schools that are left in the sweepstakes, Kentucky is the only other place that can match the exposure that Coach K and Duke can get.

Wake Forest and Kansas are out of the running for sure now with this injury.

We are going to find out what officially happens tomorrow at noon, but you have to think that the slim chance that Duke had in losing the Harry Giles sweepstakes is gone now.

Mike Krzyzewski is about to grab the commitment of Harry Giles officially tomorrow.
