Will the New 30-Second Shot Clock make the Game More Exciting?

Our biggest complaint when watching collegiate basketball is that the game is too bogged down.

The college game was too slow because of the long shot clock, too many fouls being called and too much micro-managing from meddlesome head coaches.

The 30-second shot clock is supposed to be part of the cure for what aesthetically ails the college game.

The shot clock being shortened should put more responsibility on the players to get into their offensive set and execute quicker.

This should also allow for teams who would not normally pressure the ball from 3/4 court to full court to actually consider doing it more often in order to shorten offensive half-court possession time.

Teams like Arkansas, Virginia, and Texas should benefit a great deal from the shot clock being shortened since that is five fewer seconds that they need to hold it together defensively. It should allow those teams to put the opposing offenses in a bit more of a panic to look for a good shot.

Teams that play at a fast offensive pace are not going to be affected at all. The teams you would have to worry about are teams that are usually slow half court set teams.

Those are the teams that are going to have to make an adjustment. They may not be able to dictate the pace of the game like they are used to doing.

Overall, this is about making College Basketball easier on the eyes. Hopefully speeding up the game and taking some of the micro-managing out of it can make that happen.

Really basketball should have professional rules across the board since that is the ultimate goal for a lot of the kids playing in college. They should get used to that pace of play as quickly as possible.
