The 2016 NBA Draft was filled with surprises and falling talents.

It was known coming into this year’s NBA Draft that things were wide open following Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram.

But who knew it was going to be THIS crazy.

It all started with California wing Jaylen Brown, who was over-drafted at number three overall by the Boston Celtics. Sure, Brown has a great physical profile and is a terrific athlete, but will his ability to bully players on his way to the rim really work against grown men at the next level?

Three prospects, Dejounte Murray, Skal Labissiere and Deyonta Davis, who were invited to the green room remained in the Barclays Center late in the first round.

Has that ever happened before in the history of the draft?

Murray found a perfect home in San Antonio at 29th overall, but was projected to land between 10-14.

Labissiere, who was selected 28th overall by the Sacramento Kings, was once looked at as a future number one overall pick. Instead, Big Skal is headed to the West Coast to play with former Kentucky bigs DeMarcus Cousins and Willie Cauley-Stein.

Davis actually left the green room, before the Memphis Grizzlies selected the big man at the beginning of the first round.

On top of the major drop of those three former college talents, a record 14 international prospects were chosen in the first 30 picks. In fact, three Europeans were chosen in four picks in the middle of the first round, and the Philadelphia 76ers added Timothe Luwawu and Furkan Korkmaz with back-to-back picks.

Then there was the SEC.

The conference, which was weak beyond Kentucky last season, supported five first round selections – the most of any conference.

But the most surprising news of the night came out of Milwaukee, as the Bucks took a major risk in selecting high school prospect Thon Maker at number 10 overall.

Seriously, who in the world had this happening?

Maker was a former five-star recruit who had a major interest from Kentucky, Notre Dame, St. John’s, Indiana and Arizona State. He was once compared to Kevin Durant based on a 2014 mixtape, and there have been questions regarding Maker’s guardian, Ed Smith.

On Thursday morning, reports surfaced that Maker might be older (two to four years older) than his listed age of 19.

All the supposed “issues” didn’t bother the Bucks though, as Jason Kidd and John Hammond went all in on Maker’s upside, character, ability to stretch the floor, length and size.

The reason for the risk: Maker has very little experience, is rail thin and needs to develop a better feel for the game.

Regardless of the situation, the Bucks feel that he could (in time) create spacing for their guards and help them get back to their defensive identity.

So yeah, it was one heck of a night in Brooklyn.
