10th ranked Creighton came out on Wednesday night and controlled their Big East basketball game against Seton Hall.

Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Taking care of the ball is one of the most fundamental parts of basketball, and Seton Hall could not do it in this battle, falling by 14 points to the 10th ranked Creighton Bluejays.

The Bluejays were led by their entire starting lineup, as every player finished in double figures. Maurice Watson Jr. notched a double-double in this one, supplying 21 points and a game-high 10 assists. The major key for Creighton was their ridiculous field goal percentage of 56.6 percent. It is nearly impossible to beat a top-10 team on the road when they shoot the way the Bluejays did in this one.

Seton Hall, who had a solid non-conference slate, was certainly hoping for a better result in this game. This loss, however, was not the fault of either Desi Rodriquez or Khadeen Carrington. Rodriquez was 9-of-16 from the field, including a scorching 5-of-6 from three to tack on 24 points, while Carrington finished 8-of-11 (3-of-5 from the three) for 27 points.

On top of the main scorers, Angel Delgado supplied a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

It was, nonetheless, a game that was ultimately controlled by Creighton the whole way. In fact, after a Watson jump shot with 8:51 left in the first half, Creighton took a 23-21 lead from which they never looked back. Their lead continued to grow from that point and reached a high of 16 points, even though it was brought within 10 on a few occasions.

The Bluejays did an excellent job creating turnovers and limiting their fouls. Seton Hall turned the ball over 18 times to Creighton’s 10, while also suffering from a foul differential of -7.

Moving forward for Seton Hall, they see a pretty easy schedule approaching. First, the Marquette Golden Eagles come to town for a battle, which is then followed by DePaul at home. After that, another battle with Marquette closes a pretty easy stretch for the Pirates.

In order for their tournament hopes to stay high, Seton Hall likely needs to go 3-0 in those games. 2-1 might suffice, but 3-0 would be a huge help.

Creighton, on the other hand, looks to continue their undefeated season when No. 1 Villanova comes to town on New Years’ Day. This will be a huge battle for the entire Big East, as Creighton and ‘Nova look to be the conference’s best two teams. After the ‘Nova game, though, the schedule does not get much easier. Creighton then starts a three-game road trip in which they face off against St. John’s, Providence, and Butler.

In the end, this game was just about what most people expected. Seton Hall looks like they’ll be hanging around the fringe of tournament for much of the year, while Creighton solidified their case to stand among the top tier teams in the country.
