Big East Basketball: 18th ranked Butler wins at Georgetown in overtime
Just a few days after taking down top-ranked Villanova, Butler took care of Georgetown in a Big East basketball road game.
In what was a close game throughout, Butler was able to force overtime in the last minute and then went on to win the overtime period 17-8 thanks to great foul shooting.

Freshman guard Kamar Baldwin chipped in a season high 16 points for the Bulldogs, as well as coming up with two huge steals on the defensive end. Once again, it was Butler’s balanced offensive attack that carried them to victory.
All nine players that saw the floor this afternoon for Butler scored, with eight of them scoring at least five points. And even though it was not their best shooting performance from the field at 39.1 percent, Butler relied on their steady three-point shooting to get the win.
For Georgetown, senior Rodney Pryor, who entered the game averaging nearly 20 points per game, was dreadful. He finished the game 0-of-8 and missed all four of his three-pointers. This culminated in him scoring zero points.

However, other players picked up the slack for the Hoyas. Both L.J. Peak and Jagan Mosely recorded over 20 points, while two others joined them in double figures. These numbers, however, were not enough.
With just under a minute to play in regulation, sophomore center Nate Fowler buried a top-of-the-key three-pointer off a pick-and-pop play, tying the game at 66. Then, after Mosely made two free throws for Georgetown, giving them the two-point edge again, Fowler struck for a second time.
After a poor shot attempt that was missed by the Bulldogs, Fowler grabbed the rebound and was fouled. Because the Bulldogs were in the double bonus, Fowler stepped calmly to the line and sunk both attempts to tie the game. After a stop on the ensuing Hoya possession, the game went to an extra period.
In overtime, Butler built on their play from the last minute of the game and went on to win by nine points, thoroughly controlling the extra time with great foul shooting. For the game, Butler was 25-of-29 from the foul line.
This win for Butler was a great sign for the team, as they were able to win a tough road game without much help from star player Kelan Martin, who was just 3-of-13 from the field for 13 points.
Moving forward for the Bulldogs, their next two games come against two of the other top teams in the country and conference (Creighton on the road followed by Xavier at home). Should they win both, the Dawgs would take over first place in the conference and would likely find themselves with a spot in the top-10.
With this loss, Georgetown moved to 0-4 in conference play. This was almost a must-win for them, and they’ll need to get on track quickly and rattle off a bunch of major wins if they’re going to make the tournament this season. Their next game comes against St. Johns.
