In what was supposed to be the start to a promising season, a pair of big injuries has all but deflated the Bulldogs.

Yale’s fate was sealed before they even stepped onto the court. Earlier in the week sophomore big man Jordan Bruner was declared out for the season after tearing his meniscus. The forward was one of the better defenders in all of the Ivy.

Making matters worse, star guard Makai Mason, who missed all of last season with a stress fracture in his foot, unfortunately, re-injured it again. The only positive about this news is that he’s only expected to miss a couple of months, meaning he should be back for conference play.

That’s good for the future, but not for right now. And right now included a thumping at the hands of the Creighton Blue Jays. It was interesting to see what the Big East team would look like after the losses of Justin Patton and Mo Watson. The emergence of Khyri Thomas is welcome news for fans. If the reigning Big East Defensive Player of the Year continues dropping 22 point games like this, Creighton may be more of a threat than initially expected.

Marcus Foster’s 23 points to lead the team is nothing of a surprise. Even at Kansas State, his scoring abilities were never questioned. It’s whether or not he can lead a team to their proper destination. Right now, all signs look good.

As for Yale, the offense will have to change completely. The now go-to-player Miye Oni struggled today, finishing with just nine points on 3-12 shooting. He’s also going to need help to keep the ship afloat while Mason’s out. Otherwise, more blowouts are in store.

There’s no time to rest for the Bulldogs, as they take a trip to play the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday. Although, if today was an indicator, it might not be much of a contest. Which really is a shame, because if healthy, Yale would have given some power-conference teams a real run for their money.
