UMBC vs. Virginia (Round of 64)

Sorry Cavalier fans, but the historic element to this game as well as the remarkable story of the Retrievers makes this first round matchup clearly the most captivating of the tournament. Even though the game turned into a 20 point blowout, the majority of the game was actually fairly tight, and it became evident very slowly that UMBC had a chance to pull the upset.

At halftime, both teams were still in the game on the scoreboard, but simply due to the seeding and past results, few who were watching anticipated what was about to happen.

In the first few minutes of the second half, each possession gave the Retrievers more reason to believe and Virginia more reason to be very concerned. By the time the home stretch came around, UMBC was going to win, and it was the most stunning victory in tournament history.

Since the games with the most on the line lacked intrigue a little bit more than usual and didn’t come down to the wire, the most incredible upset in history which made headlines for days is the most intriguing outcome of the tournament.
