The summer AAU season is just getting started. Three sessions through EYBL circuit play, some young players are already turning heads with offers in NCAA Recruiting.

The AAU season is underway as the HoopGroup Southern Jamfest comes up this weekend. The Southern Jamfest is in Hampton, Virginia which pits sponsored and non-sponsored teams against each other in one roof. It’s sure to be action-packed as some of the top teams across the nation are set to make an appearance.

On the recruiting front, a lot of high school prospects were abuzz on the AAU circuit this past weekend in Atlanta. 2021 big man Roosevelt Wheeler of Team Loaded (VA) received an offer from the Florida Gators. Wheeler is a 6-foot-10 center who started for state champion John Marshall High School in Richmond, VA this past season. A native of Hampton, Wheeler is just getting started on Team Loaded’s 16U squad. He’s also got offers from Old Dominion and Hampton.

Roosevelt Wheeler wasn’t the only big man the Gators offered this past weekend. 2021 big man Matthew Nunez offered by the Florida Gators and Georgetown Hoyas over the weekend. Nunez is playing with Boo Williams 16U squad on the EYBL circuit.  He is a 6-foot-9 center who attends Woodside High School in Newport News, Virginia.

Nunez is one big man to keep an eye on in the next few years as he’s already pulled offers from two high major programs. Georgetown also offered Nunez’ teammate 2021 big man Oluwasegun Durosinmi aka “Duro” this past weekend. Duro attends Virginia Academy (VA) and generated his first Division 1 offer his play in Atlanta.

Another player to keep an eye on is 2020 guard Cameron Thomas. Thomas had a big weekend for Boo Williams 17U squad, leading the team to a 3-1 record in Atlanta.

Thomas put up performances of 38, 35, 18 and 32 points in his team’s four games over the weekend. His play earned him offers from Wake Forest and the UConn Huskies.

AOT Running Rebels and Team Takeover continue to dominate

The UConn Huskies were another team busy on the recruiting trail. They also offered AOT Running Rebels (GA) 2020 guard Sharife Cooper after a big weekend. Cooper averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals in Session 3.

The AOT Running Rebels are currently 10-2 in EYBL play after going 4-0 this past weekend. Teammates Isaac Okoro and Brandon Boston are lethal options for Cooper and the Running Rebels. Okoro earned an offer from the Texas Longhorns after posting 20+ points in all four games over the weekend.

Team Takeover still looks like the team to beat in the EYBL, though, as they remain unbeaten at 12-0. They defeated the PSA Cardinals (NY) and Cole Anthony 81-69 behind a 26-point performance from Villanova Wildcats commit 2019 guard Justin Moore. Anthony also put up 26 points in the game.

Team Takeover dominated fellow rival Team Melo, 63-46, as Moore led the way for his squad with 16 points. 2019 6-foot-3 combo guard Anthony Harris finished with 13 points and four steals. 2019 UVA commit Casey Morsell finished with 11 points.

DeMatha (MD) 2019 point guard Jahmir Young broke out with 30 points along with nine assists in Team Takeover’s final victory of the weekend over Rose City Rebels (OR) as well. Young currently holds offers from Lehigh, Towson, UNC-Greensboro and Howard University.
