Vernon Carey Jr. is one of the best players in the 2019 recruiting class. He could very well be coming to a decision soon. Which one will he choose?

With top-20 recruit in the 2018 class Jordan Brown choosing to go with the Nevada Wolf Pack, that took care of all the top-100 players when it comes to next season. Now technically, players listed as part of the current 2019 class can reclassify in order to play next year, but the focus now turns to the next group of future basketball stars.

Vernon Carey Jr. is currently ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the 2019 class, according to 247sports. He’s the best forward in the class, and the scholarship offers thrown his way shows it. It’s still Spring and the recruiting process is ongoing. However, there seems to be some progress being made.

In no particular order, Duke, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan State and North Carolina are the five finalists for the star forward. The Hurricanes appear to be the outlier in terms of basketball prestige, but it makes sense with it being the alma mater of his father, who played football for them.

Duke and Kentucky are blue bloods who turn over five-star players, so they’ll be room for Carey to come right in and likely start. The same could be said for North Carolina and Michigan State, but the competition for minutes would involve more experienced players.

A decision isn’t likely to happen for weeks – even months possibly. But an early decision by Carey will have a big domino effect for the rest of the 2019 class. There’s no true frontrunner at the moment, so the heavyweight programs will have to gear up for a big battle before the season even starts.
