Michigan State Basketball: Top 15 Players that have Played for Head Coach Tom Izzo
15. Adreian Payne – Michigan State Spartans (2011-2014)
Career stats: 8.9 ppg 5.3 rpg 0.6 apg
A model of Izzo’s development, Payne went from a seldom used player into a star his senior year. He developed a three-point shot and averaged 16.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg for an All-Big Ten campaign. Payne played a big part in the Spartan’s Elite Eight run in 2014.
14. Quinton Brooks – Michigan State Spartans (1993-1996)
Career stats: 11.3 ppg 4.6 rpg 0.7
Brooks has a special place on this list, being the first “star” player for Izzo when he arrived in East Lansing in 1995. He was a good player before the coach came, but Brooks’ game was elevated in the one year they were together. He averaged 16.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg and provided a solid foundation for Izzo to start his career at Michigan State.
13. Raymar Morgan – Michigan State Spartans (2007-2010)
Career stats: 11.8 ppg 5.7 rpg 1.4 apg
Morgan was the perfect kind of player for Izzo. He never was a 30-point or 20-rebound player on any given night, but the 6’8 forward was a consistent double-digit scorer and quality defender. Morgan’s reliability was why he was a four-year starter – something not easily done with this coach.
12. Travis Trice – Michigan State Spartans (2012-2015)
Career stats: 8.5 ppg 2.1 rpg 2.9 apg
A solid contributor his first three years, Trice exploded as a senior. He led the Spartans in points (15.3 ppg) and assists (5.1 apg) in 2015, which ended up with a surprising Final Four run as a seven seed. Trice averaged 20 ppg in that said run.
11. Shannon Brown – Michigan State Spartans (2004-2006)
Career stats: 12.2 ppg 3.4 rpg 1.9 apg
A three-year starter, Brown emerged as an elite scorer his junior year. He averaged 17.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg his final year but is best known for his 24-point outing in 2005 against Kentucky to send the Spartans to the Final Four.
