Khyri Thomas, Creighton

Creighton Bluejays guard Khyri Thomas was the only other Big East player to hear his name called at the 2018 NBA Draft. Thomas was taken 38th overall as the eighth pick in the second round of the draft by the Philadelphia 76ers then traded to the Detroit Pistons.

Given the Pistons just hired Dwane Casey as their head coach, it’s fitting they made a move for the Big East’ two-time Defensive Player of the Year. Thomas put up 11.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game in three seasons with the Bluejays.

He is the third Creighton player to be drafted since Justin Patton (2017) and Doug McDermott (2014). The last player from Creighton taken in the second round, though, was Kyle Korver.

That should be enough motivation for Khyri Thomas who has an opportunity to contribute as a two-way reserve for the Pistons. Summer League should tell the tale for a guy like Thomas in terms of where he stands among other prospects.
