Moritz Wagner, Michigan

After a big season culminating in a Final Four finish and an appearance in the national title game, Moritz “Mo” Wagner tested his chances in the NBA Draft. Wagner’s luck turned into the No. 25 pick to the Los Angeles Lakers this past Thursday night.  He is the third Michigan player drafted in the first round in the past three drafts. They’ve had at least one first-round pick since the 2013 NBA Draft.

Wagner averaged 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds as a junior, shooting 52.8 percent from the floor and 39.4 percent from 3-point range. He isn’t the most talented player on defense, but offensively, he’s got scoring ability from both inside and outside.

It’s fitting he landed with the Lakers, a team with money to spend, meaning they could go either way as an organization. Considering there’s room in the frontcourt for Wagner, his presence should be a positive for Los Angeles if he does work out.
