The Texas Tech Red Raiders are coming off a historic year, but Texas Basketball is ready to supplant them once again in the Big 12.
Outside of Lawrence, Kansas, the Texas Longhorns remain the glamour program of the Big 12.
The program has taken some hits in recent years. Shaka Smart has the ship headed in the right direction, but it’s still wobbling, sometimes due to circumstances out of their control (i.e. Andrew Jones‘ battle with leukemia).
Still, the Longhorns look ready to assume their mantle at or near the top of the conference sooner rather than later. Strong recruiting classes and the rise of veterans should partially offset the loss of last year’s best player, Mohamed Bamba, now plying his craft in the NBA.
Besides the Kansas Jayhawks, losses across the conference should also propel the Longhorns back to the top of the conference; Texas Tech may be the worst afflicted of all.
For the next two months, the Longhorns will be able to operate in relative obscurity as their football team draws attention away from practices and preparation for the basketball team.
Come November, however, the basketball team will be a force to be reckoned with. Here are three reasons Texas will stomp Texas Tech in the coming year.
