Key reserves

The George Washington bench will be stocked in the backcourt for 2018-19. Justin Mazzulla, Maceo Jack and Justin Williams contributed in some capacity last season. This upcoming season, they’ll have to increase their production in order to improve the overall outcome. Mazzulla started in 11 games during the 2017-18 regular season, but by the end of things, he was given a majority of his opportunities off the bench. In 2018-19, he’ll need to show he can make an impact, especially with fewer playmakers on the floor.

Jack put up 2.8 points in 8.3 minutes per game last season. With bigger minutes, he should grow into a versatile option off the bench. He shot 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) from 3-point land in 2017-18. Williams is another guy who did more with less playing time. With more playing time, he’ll be another player that head coach Maurice Joseph will hope provides a spark.

As far as newcomers, freshman guard Shandon Brown could struggle to find playing time right away but forward Mezie Offurum is another guy who has an opportunity to earn some playing time in the frontcourt. Offurum is a 6-foot-6 forward who produced 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a senior this past year for Georgetown Prep (MD). Don’t be surprised if he’s another guy who cracks the starting lineup by season’s end.

There’s also 6-foot-9 forward Javier Langarica, a native of Spain, on the roster. He was used sparingly in 2017-18, playing a total of 27 minutes across 10 games. He’ll be another player to keep an eye on with Watanabe gone.
