The rich got richer on Friday night, as Duke Basketball earned the commitment of highly coveted combo guard Boogie Ellis.

Combo guard Boogie Ellis made his college decision on Friday night, choosing the Duke Blue Devils over the North Carolina Tar Heels, San Diego State Aztecs, USC Trojans and Memphis Tigers. Ellis was a highly ranked and regarded prospect after a strong summer on the AAU circuit.

The San Diego, CA native is currently ranked as the 35th overall player in the 2019 recruiting class and didn’t hesitate to get his college recruiting process out of the way for his senior season. It looks as though the Blue Devils’ season-opening victory had something to do with his selection.

The 6-foot-2 guard put up 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists on 45.8 percent from 3-point range with the Oakland Soldiers on the EYBL circuit this past summer. He made 66 3-pointers for the Soldiers through 23 appearances, showing off his sharpshooting ability from behind the arc.

Duke beat the Kentucky Wildcats convincingly on the national stage this past Tuesday night, 118-84, behind a combined 83 points from their All-Star freshmen class of R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish. The Blue Devils high-powered offense was on full display as they put up 59 points in each half. Barrett led all scorers in the game with 33 points.

Ellis is the newest member of their 2019 recruiting class, which has already earned the pledge of five-star prospect and North Carolina native, Wendell Moore. With both Moore and Ellis in their 2019 recruiting class, it looks as though things are just getting started for the Blue Devils.

Some other top Duke prospects still out there are Vernon Carey and Isaiah Stewart, two other highly rated prospects in the 2019 class. After the beatdown the current Duke freshmen put on the Wildcats, it will be interesting to see if their profile grows on the recruiting trail.
