3. Stay out of foul trouble

The vaunted 2-3 zone defense of head coach Jim Boeheim has been anything but that in 2018-19. In their two losses this season, junior forward Elijah Hughes has fouled out. Marek Dolezaj fouled out of their contest against UConn while Paschal Chukwu fouled out against the Oregon Ducks.

On the year, Chukwu and Dolezaj are averaging 3.1 fouls per contest apiece. While Chukwu has fouled out just one game, Dolezaj has fouled out twice despite not being a starter.

The biggest concern for the Orange in this one will be keeping their frontcourt players out of foul trouble with the likes of Jessie Govan, Trey Mourning and Josh LeBlanc on the other side.

Govan is putting up 19.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Mourning had a breakout game against the Campbell Camels with 27 points and 12 rebounds on Nov. 24 and is averaging 9.1 points and 5.9 rebounds in the starting lineup as a senior.

LeBlanc will be the Hoyas’ wildcard off the bench. He’s producing 9.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest during his freshman campaign. Syracuse will have their hands full on the interior and they’ll need to really buckle down to play solid defense or an upset could be in the making before it’s all said and done.
