The ACC basketball season has yet to commence but nonconference woes have shown some chinks in the armor for some teams set for strong seasons.

With more parity in the ACC, there’s been a major shift in the latest edition of ACC power rankings. This past Saturday was a rough day all around from an ACC basketball perspective. Four teams fell, two in upset fashion, as the Pittsburgh Panthers, Louisville Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Clemson Tigers all fell to non-conference opponents.

They aren’t the only teams struggling, either, as the Miami Hurricanes are another team that’s fallen on hard times. They’ve lost four games in a row, two recently to Ivy League squads.

The Virginia Cavaliers, on the other hand, still remain as the lone undefeated team in the ACC with a record of 9-0. They got a challenge from the VCU Rams this past weekend, but escaped relatively unfazed. They did suffer an injury to a key player which could impact their defense in the backcourt.

The Florida State Seminoles are another team surging after a big win over the UConn Huskies in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday. They had some question marks going in but they got a convincing 79-71 victory over the Huskies in the end.

The ACC is shaping up to be an interesting conference by the time January arrives. Here’s a look at this week’s edition of the ACC power rankings.
