7. Texas Longhorns (8-4)

Previous Ranking: No. 7

The Texas Longhorns have been a pretty tough team to figure out early on.

They’ve beaten good teams such as Purdue and North Carolina, but they’ve had a series of horrible losses, most notably at home to Radford.

Part of the reason behind the inconsistency of the Longhorns has been their lack of a premier scorer. There’s no more Mo Bamba for the Longhorns, and it has really shown this year, as Texas’ struggles have been rooted by their lack of a true leader on the court.

Senior guard Kerwin Roach has been solid thus far, averaging fourteen points per game to go along with four rebounds and four assists per game. Roach isn’t nearly the pure scorer that the Longhorns need, but he’s their guy, and he’ll need to step up big come conference play.

This Texas team is built off of upperclassmen, as Roach, Dylan Osetkowski, and Elijah Mitrou-Long have led the way for the Longhorns in non-conference play.

Texas has been pretty unpredictable so far this season, but they’ll need a strong showing in conference play if they want a shot at the tournament, especially after that loss to Radford.

Texas is usually a tough out in the Big 12, and this season is no different. However, the lack of an identity for the Longhorns hurt them throughout non-conference play, and will only continue to drag them down throughout the season.
