Michigan State Basketball plays four out of their next five games on the road. Will the Spartans be able to keep pace at the top of the league?
You can make a strong argument that Michigan State is playing the best basketball in the nation for the past month and a half. After losing in overtime on the road to Louisville, the Spartans are dominating their opponents. They are currently undefeated at home and their only single-digit wins this past month and a half was a 9 point road victory against currently No. 16 ranked Ohio State and a road victory against Florida.
Since their November 28th road overtime loss to Louisville, Michigan State is 9-0 overall, 3-0 on the road, and 5-0 in Big Ten Play. In that same time, they are averaging just over 85 points per game while limiting their opponents to just over 66 points a game. During that period, Michigan State defeated Iowa by 22, Northwestern by 26, and Purdue by 18.
Lasting during that same stretch of games, the Spartans played two games without starter Matt McQuaid and Joshua Langford, another starter and 3rd leading scorer on the team has not played in the last three games. However, Michigan State has looked to their floor leader to take charge and help them navigate the team through the injuries.
Cassius Winston is not only playing at an All-American pace but should be considered the favorite to win Big Ten Player of the Year as well as an outside chance being selected national player of the year as he was just recently named to the John R. Wooden Midseason Top 25 List. Now let’s look at the tough stretch of games coming up for the Spartans which will all be nationally televised on either CBS or FS1.
