Michigan State Basketball: Why Spartans are the No. 1 team in the country
By Ryan Kay
Michigan State Basketball has been on a roll and it doesn’t look like they are going to stop anytime soon. Here’s why they’re the No. 1 team in the country.
Michigan State Basketball were expected to be a top-10 team at worse a top-15 prior to the start of the season. For the first month of the season that may have been true. However, momentum and the wins kept on coming and more importantly, it seemed that Tom Izzo and his team looked unfazed and confident on the road and dominate on their home court.
Fast forward to late January and even with injuries to key players, the Spartans look like a team on a mission. Not just to win the Big Ten regular season outright, but to make a run at a national championship.
Michigan State has many factors contributing to their success. Experience has played a major role in the Spartans winning, especially on the road. Their dominance in Big Ten play has separated them from the other 13 teams in the league. Tom Izzo and his staff have shown that they are willing to change without going away from their core principles to help the Spartans be successful this season.
The surprise contributions of the freshman have helped in time of need especially when prominent players have been injured. Lastly, the emergence of a superstar point guard and his trusty big man have set Michigan State for future success.
This Spartan team has those who doubt them but they are continuing to prove those non-sayers wrong as they have not lost a game since November 27th. Let’s take a more in-depth look at why they are the #1 team in the country.
