NCAA Basketball: The best hair styles of the 2018-19 season
By Daniel Garay
There are many interesting hair styles throughout NCAA Basketball. Here are the top 10 for the 2018-19 season.
There are things that are more important than NCAA Basketball. One of those things is style, or fashion. Fashion and high style is not limited to the runway or to highbrow magazines. Perhaps the most striking style statement a person can make is with their hair. Let’s face it — it’s on your head, and everyone can see it.
I’m sure you all know that style and fashion is not something that you will traditionally see discussed here on this website. Therefore, the only logical thing to do at this point is to put our heads together and look lightheartedly at the luscious locks in college basketball. Let’s join together and recognize the student athletes that are letting all of their game do the talking.
When I’m judging hair on the court, it’s not necessarily a quality vs. quantity debate — there’s a tasteful aspect to this that’s lost on a lot of people. Looking at the individual hair score (IHS) and the team hair score (THS), I’m able to…well, actually, these are all just advanced metrics that you all just aren’t ready for yet…
(Please note that these are in NO particular order!)
1) Brady Manek – Oklahoma Sooners

It’s always nice when you’re mentioned in the same conversation as an all-time great like Larry Bird. However, we can’t miss the real point here: Brady has gone from last year’s Buzz Brady, and is headed toward becoming Braid-y Brady. I love it.
2) CJ Elleby – Washington State Cougars
CJ is a strong freshman contributor to both his team and this list. One can only hope he continues giving us a great showing each time he laces them up.
3) Romeo Langford – Indiana Hoosiers
So the Hoosiers have fallen on some hard times — some fans are even calling for Archie Miller’s job. It’s crazy! He just started in Bloomington. The Hoosiers will be fine, and they have an extremely gifted scorer in Langford, even if it’s just for one year. If it’s any consolation, in all honesty, Romeo has a very good barber.
4) Joey Brunk – Butler Bulldogs

Some might say he has a majestic mane. And I think they would be correct in their assessment. Love seeing a legitimate big man entry on this list.
5) Remy Martin – Arizona State Sun Devils
Look at those eyes — that concentration. When he sat in that chair, Remy just gave the barber a nod — you know what, that barber nodded right back and said “I got you — say no more.”
6) John Petty – Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide boast perhaps the strongest overall team hair score (THS) in my book. I love John‘s game. I also love John’s hair. The style suits him and his game perfectly. You know what Tennessee’s Jordan Bone is thinking in this photo? Breaking news: he’s thinking: Man, I love John’s hair, too.
7. PJ Byrd – VCU Rams
In all honesty, you all have PJ to thank for the making of this list. I was watching VCU for the first time this year and saw PJ step out on the court, and I knew instantly it was my destiny to write this piece. Thank you, PJ.
8. Coby White – North Carolina Tar Heels
Coby could be on this list twice – whether he has his hair pinned back or hanging loose. Roy Williams is giving him props for that, and I have to join him in that.
9. Jalen Smith – Maryland Terrapins

In my mind, Jalen‘s style metrics look even better due to the goggle effect. In fact, he’s through the roof. Spectacular stuff.
10. I want you to decide who else should be on this list. Sound off in the comments! I hope you enjoyed this hair-raising journey through NCAAB.
