2. North Carolina Tar Heels (23-5) (13-2 ACC)

Last rank: 3rd (↑1)

The North Carolina Tar Heels are in the passenger’s seat for the top spot in the rankings as they’re riding a four-game winning streak into this weekend. They’re riding the hot start freshman Coby White is having after he put up a career-high 34 points against the Syracuse Orange on Tuesday night.

White became the first player in program history to put up three 30-plus point games as a freshman. J.R. Reid posted two during the 1986-87 season. The Tar Heels are back to their winning ways after a big game from White, who also went 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

He’s producing 15.9 points, 4.1 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest this season while shooting 37.2 percent from behind the arc. He shot 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) from 3-point land against Syracuse on Tuesday.

At 13-2, they’re in a two-way for the regular season title for now, but they’ll need to finish their conference schedule strong. On Saturday evening, they’re on the road against Clemson then on Tuesday night, they’re also on the road at Boston College.
