7. 1992-93 (29-7) (11-3)

Rex Walters and Adonis Jordan were both entering their senior seasons heading into the 1992-93 campaign. With three NCAA tournament appearances’ worth of experience and then some in the season’s prior, this group was set for a special season following an early exit in 1991-92.

The Jayhawks began the season ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll and upheld that ranking with a 15-2 start to the regular season. In Big 8 conference action, they went 11-3, winning their third-straight regular-season title under Roy Williams.

Walters produced 15.3 points, 4.3 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. Jordan put up 12.1 points, 4.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. Both shot over 42 percent from behind the arc as well. Add in big man Eric Pauley and his 11.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest and there’s a reason why they were considered a Top 10, at least.

Kansas fell in the conference tournament to the Kansas State Wildcats, but it didn’t hurt their seeding. They earned a No. 2 seed in the tournament. To show why, they scored at least 90 points in their first three victories, while winning each game by double figures.

While they lost in the Final Four to Dean Smith and the eventual champion North Carolina Tar Heels, it still marked an impressive run for this group. The run marked Williams’ second appearance in four seasons to the Final Four. Though it wouldn’t be the last run, it marked a trend for the Jayhawks in making deep runs in the NCAA Tournament.
