Michigan State Basketball: Why Spartans deserve a No. 1 seed for the Big Dance

Michigan State Basketball is fighting for a one seed in the NCAA Tournament. Do the numbers say that the Spartans deserve it?

The Spartans have dealt with injuries to two of their three top scores, however Michigan State is playing like a team that is determined to not let adversity ruin their hopes and aspirations of obtaining a #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament. Michigan State Basketball has come close to earning a #1 seed in recent seasons but did not earn one of the four #1 seeds the previous three NCAA tournaments.

Michigan State Basketball has many factors contributing to their success as they hope to earn the last #1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Experience has played a very important role in the Spartans winning, especially on the road. Their early dominance in Big Ten play had separated them from the other 13 teams in the league.

Even with the injuries that they had to endure throughout the season, they won a share of the Big Ten regular season title. Tom Izzo and his staff have shown that they are willing to change without going away from their core principles to help the Spartans be successful heading into the NCAA Tournament. Here are some the reasons why they deserve a number #1 seed.

As many conference tournaments have ended and  some continue to go through the weekend, potential #1 seeds for the NCAA Tournament have either not won their conference tournament or were eliminated prior to their conference championship game. Virginia lost by double digits to Florida State in the ACC Tournament semifinals, North Carolina also lost in the ACC semifinals to in-state rival Duke, and Gonzaga lost in their conference tournament finals by 13 points to Saint Mary’s.

If Michigan State can win the Big Ten Tournament, they are a lock for a #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament. Here are some reasons why the Spartans are deserving of a #1 seed.
